CONWAY, Ark. _ The University of Central Arkansas Bears will take on the ASUN's hottest team this weekend at Bear Stadium, hosting the Austin Peay Governors in their final home series of the 2024 season.
The Bears (21-23, 11-13) are fighting for a spot in the ASUN Championship, which begins May 21 in DeLand, Fla. UCA is in a tie for seventh place with Eastern Kentucky, with the top eight teams making the tournament field. The Governors (31-17, 16-8) are leading the ASUN and have won 10 of their past 11 games, utilizing a high-powered offense.
APSU leads the nation in home runs (135), batting average (.359), runs scored (539), hits, (628), slugging percentage (.679) and scoring (11.2 runs per game). The Governors are averaging 11.2 runs per game and have scored double-figure runs 30 times.
UCA, which did not play a mid-week game, is coming off a 1-2 series with Lipscomb at Bear Stadium. The Bears won Game 2 by a score of 7-5 as part of a Saturday doubleheader due to weather issues on Sunday. UCA had a chance to win the series but fell 8-7 in the finale on Saturday night. Prior to that, the Bears had a season-high seven-game winning streak.
The Bears finish the regular season next weekend at Stetson in Deland, Fla.Â
UCA took two of three games from APSU last season in Conway, winning 4-2 and 16-15 and dropping the final game 7-6. The Bears took advantage of 22 walks and nine hit batters in the series, including15 walks and seven hit batters in the 16-15 win.
APSU is coming off a 2-1 weekend at Stetson, and a 16-12 mid-week win over Belmont on Tuesday.
