FLORENCE, Ala. _ The University of Central Arkansas Bears will be on the road this weekend in ASUN Conference action, taking on the North Alabama Lions at Mike D. Lane Field.
The Bears have won four consecutive games, including a conference sweep of Bellarmine last weekend at Bear Stadium and a 10-8 victory over in-state rival Arkansas State on Tuesday at home.
UCA is 17-22 overall and 7-11 in conference play. UNA is 14-24 and 6-12 in the ASUN. The series is key for both programs in seeking a spot in the ASUN postseason tournament. The top eight teams in the standings make the field. UCA is currently tied for ninth place with Queens, while UNA is 11th.
The Bears have won seven straight games in the series, dating back to 2022 when the teams played a double round robin. UCA swept the series a year ago in Conway, winning 9-1, 7-6 and 17-8, and won the final four games of 2022. UNA's last victory in the series was a 3-1 win on April 2, 2022 in Florence.
The Bears have put up 15 hits in their past two games and raised their team batting average by 10 points in the past three games, up to .249. UCA is 9-3 when it has double-figure hits this season and is 13-5 when it scores at least six runs.
UCA has home series remaining with Lipscomb (May 3-5) and Austin Peay (May 10-12) and a road series at Stetson (May 16-18).
