FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. _Â The University of Central Arkansas Bears will get their fifth shot at the No. 2-ranked Arkansas Razorbacks in the past four seasons on Tuesday afternoon at Baum-Walker Stadium. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. on The Bear 91.3 and the SEC Network+.
Since the teams renewed their in-state rivalry in 2021, Arkansas has won all four meetings, with all four games played in Fayetteville. The first two meetings were Razorback blowouts, but the past two matchups have been 2-1 and 6-3 victories for the Arkansas.
A year ago, the Bears took an early 1-0 lead, fell behind 3-1, then tied it at 3-3 in the top of the seventh. But Arkansas scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to pull out the victory. The Hogs, who are 7-1 at home this season, finished 32-6 at Baum-Walker Stadium a year ago.Â
Arkansas is 9-2 this season, with a home loss to James Madison and a neutral-site loss to Oklahoma State. Since the latter, the Razorbacks have won five straight games, a three-game sweep of Murray State last weekend at home.
UCA (7-6) put together a six-game winning streak before dropping the final two games of a four-game non-conference series with Tarleton State last weekend at Bear Stadium. The Bears also have two close losses _ 2-0 and 4-3 _ to defending national champion LSU on opening weekend of the season.
The Bears are 1-0 against in-state competition so far this season after last Tuesday's 12-inning 8-4 victory over Arkansas State in Jonesboro. UCA will play Arkansas State again and three games with Little Rock to round out a six-game in-state slate.
Arkansas leads the overall series with UCA 7-4-2, which dates back to 1921. The 2021 meeting was the first between the programs since 1948.
UCA returns home this weekend to host Missouri State in a three-game, non-conference series beginning at 6 p.m. Friday.
