MONROE, La. _ The University of Central Arkansas Bears will be on the road Tuesday for a non-conference matchup with the ULM Warhawks. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. at Lou St. Amant Field.
UCA, coming off its ASUN Conference opening series at home last weekend, will be on the road for its next four games. The Bears will continue league play this weekend in Jacksonvile, Fla., taking on the North Florida Ospreys.
UCA and ULM will be meeting for the ninth time on Tuesday. The Bears lead the overall series 6-2 but the Warhawks won last year's meeting 5-3 at Bear Stadium in Conway.
The Warhawks, who are 12-8 this season, out-hit the Bears 11-8. UCA's
A.J. Mendolia and ULM's Jake Haggard both had home runs. ULM starter Chris Kean got the win on a bullpen day, going just one inning and striking out two. UCA starter
Jack Haley got the loss in 3.2 innings, allowing just one earned run. UCA shortstop
Reid Bowman was the only Bear with multiple hits, going 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Eight UCA players who saw action last year are back this season, including Bowman, Mendolia,
Drew Sturgeon,
Mason King,
Tanner Leonard and pitchers
Tate Busey,
Bryce Parlin and
Trent Gregson.
The last time the teams played in Monroe, the Bears won 10-4 back in 2015.
The Warhawks are 1-2 in Sun Belt Conference play after opening at home against Troy. ULM is hitting .299 as a team, led by senior first baseman Michelle Artzberger, who is hitting .394 with 2 home runs and 9 doubles. He is followed closely by freshman outfielder Easton Winfield at .389, with a team-high 6 home runs.
ULM has 24 homes runs in 20 games and has allowed just nine.
