LOUISVILLE, Ky. _ The University of Central Arkansas Bears will be on the road this weekend, facing the Bellarmine Knights in a three-game ASUN series at Knights Field.
The Bears (16-24, 7-11) will take on the Knights (11-30, 6-12) at 1 p.m. (CT) on Friday and Saturday and at noon (CT) Sunday.
Both teams are needing wins to move into contention for a spot in the ASUN postseason tournament that is now just a month away. The Bears, currently in 11th place, have four conference series remaining before the field of eight is set for the tournament, which will be played May 23-27 in DeLand, Fla.Â
UCA will host Austin Peay (12-6 in ASUN) next weekend, travel to Jacksonville State (11-7) on May 12-14 and finish the regular season at home against Eastern Kentucky (9-9) on May 18-20.
The Bears took four of six games from the Knights a year ago when the teams played home-and-home series. UCA went 2-1 in both series in Louisville and Conway. The Bears hit .355 over the six games while the Knights hit .295. UCA scored 10-plus runs in all four of its victories.
The top returning hitters from that series for the Bears are second baseman
Tanner Leonard, who hit .500, catcher
Noah Argenta  (.478) and right fielder
Kolby Johnson (.448). UCA returns only one pitcher who picked up a win on the mound against Bellarmine, reliever
Trent Gregson.
UCA is expected to start junior
Jesse Barker (5-2, 2.62 ERA) on Friday and senior
Cade Fenton (1-3, 6.00) on Saturday. Both pitched well in losses to Stetson last weekend, with Barker striking out 11 and walking none and Fenton striking out eight with two walks.
The games will be carried live on The Bear 91.3 and on the BU Knights Sports Network.  Â
