FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. _ The University of Central Arkansas Bears will face their third Top 10 team of the season on Tuesday night when they take on the No. 5 Arkansas Razorbacks at Baum-Walker Stadium.
UCA (16-19, 7-8) will take on Arkansas (29-7, 11-4) at 6 p.m. in the only meeting of the season. The Bears and Razorbacks will be playing for the third consecutive season. Arkansas leads the overall series 6-4-2 but is 3-0 since the resumption of the series in 2021. Prior to 2021, the programs had not met since 1948.
The Hogs won both meetings a year ago, with a dominant 21-9 victory in Fayetteville but a nail-biter in the rematch. The Bears took the Hogs to extra innings before falling 2-1 at Dickey-Stephens Park in North Little Rock. UCA right hander
Oliver Laufman held the Razorbacks to just six hits and one run over seven innings of work, after Arkansas had 19 hits in the first matchup.
The Bears are coming off a 1-2 weekend at North Florida in ASUN Conference play last weekend in Jacksonville, Fla. UCA won the opener behind ASUN Pitcher of the Week
Jesse Barker's complete-game shutout, but then dropped both games of Saturday's doubleheader.
The Razorbacks , who swept Top 25 Tennessee at Baum-Walker last weekend, are 24-3 at home this season. Arkansas is 1-1 against in-state competition this season, having split a mid-week series with the Little Rock Trojans last week. A single game against Arkansas State was canceled on April 4.
UCA is 2-2 against in-state squads this season, with a 1-1 split with Arkansas State, a win over UAPB and a loss at Little Rock. The Bears have two more games this season with Little Rock as part of the "Governor's I-40 Showdown."
The Bears split their earlier Top 10 matchups this season, knocking off No. 10 Vanderbilt 5-4 on Feb. 21 in Nashville, Tenn., then losing to No. 1 LSU 10-4 on March 21 in Baton Rouge, La. Arkansas lost two out of three at LSU on March 24-25, also in Baton Rouge.
UCA returns home to host the Stetson Hatters in ASUN action this weekend at Bear Stadium. Arkansas travels to face the Georgia Bulldogs in Athens, Ga., in SEC play. Â
