ATLANTA, Ga. – The University of Central Arkansas volleyball program saw another player add a personal accolade in the 2023 season, as senior April Conant was named to the Fall 2023 Winners For Life team in the ASUN.
The conference announced the team Thursday afternoon comprised of one player for each school. The representative exemplifies the core values of the ASUN: education, honesty, student-athlete experience, fairness, health, ambition, respect, diversity, inclusion, leadership, responsibility, and sportsmanship.
Conant certainly demonstrates each of those core values, as she finished her career with a 3.8 GPA with a degree in General Science. After graduation, she plans to apply to medical school in hopes of becoming a pediatrician. While she applies, she plans to coach at Absolute Volleyball Academy, where she played when she was younger.
On the court, the co-captain had a career season, tallying 96 kills, a career high, as well as 40 total blocks, which was third on the team. However, Conant's impact is apparent outside the court as well, as she volunteered at St. Joseph's Catholic Church as a Sunday School teacher, as well as the Conway Kids' Triathlon the past two falls. Conant also represented UCA at the 2023 ASUN SAAC conference before the season.
Head coach John Newberry on Conant: "I couldn't be more elated and proud of April for winning this award. If you're one of the many people who know her, it's not shocking that she won. She's at the pinnacle of someone who displayed great character and is highly respected amongst her peers. Her diligence with her academics and her discipline with how she handles life sets apart from others. April definitely deserves this award and I'm so privileged to have gotten to know her these last several years."
