CONWAY, Ark. _ University of Central Arkansas pitcher Noah Cameron was named Wednesday to the Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-America team.
Cameron, a 6-foot-3, 215-pound left handed starting pitcher, was 6-2 with a 2.95 earned-run average in his rookie campaign with the Bears. Cameron was a second-team All-Southland Conference selection and was named the SLC Pitcher of the Week on March 18 after a complete-game, four-hit shutout win over Nicholls State in which he faced just 30 batters and struck out 13.
Cameron, from St. Joseph (Mo.) High School, recorded 91 strikeouts and walked 19 over 94 2/3 innings of work. He had double-figure strikeouts twice, including 12 against Abilene Christian and 13 against Nicholls, which ties for the third-best total in school history. His 91 strikeouts is the sixth-best single-season total in school history and the most by a freshman.
Cameron had one complete game and pitched at least five innings in all but one of his 14 starts and went at least eight innings four times. Opponents recorded a .239 batting average against him.
Cameron helped the Bears to their eighth consecutive berth in the Southland Conference Tournament, earning the No. 2 seed, the best since becoming eligible for the tournament in 2011. UCA lost to McNeese State in the championship game and closed the season with a 32-27 overall record (19-11 in SLC play).
