HYDE WINS GOLD, HAMILTON, CRINER SET SCHOOL MARKS


NATCHITOCHES, La. _ University of Central Arkansas freshman Gracie Hyde won the 3,000 meter steeplechase in easy fashion Saturday at the 2019 Southland Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Walter P. Ledet Track Complex.

UCA's men got a school record and a bronze medal from junior Jaron Hamilton in the steeplechase. The Grand Prairie, Texas, native ran a 9:09.23 to break the three-year-old record held by Grant Williams. 

Hyde, a freshman from Benton, Ark., ran a stadium record 10:27.55 and won by nearly 15 seconds over a pair of Stephen F. Austin runners.

UCA junior Ajah Criner qualified No. 1 for Sunday's finals and broke the school record in the 200 meters (23.46). Criner also qualified second in the 100 meters (11,73). Senior Victoria Campfield qualified seventh in the 400 meter hurdles (1:02.45). Junior Erin Woodward qualified 11th in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:49.62, while sophomore Charlotte Blair qualified 12th (4:50.11). 

Freshman Timon Dresselhaus finished sixth in the decathlon with 6,596 points, the second-best total in school history. Zac Bitton was 11th and Luke Anthony 16th.

Freshman Hunter Henderson qualified 10th in the 1,500 meters in 4:00.84 and junior Ryan Yarde quailfied fourth in the 800 meters in 1:56.13.

Field event finals are scheduled for 10 a.m. Sunday, with running event finals beginning at noon. The final event, the men's 4x400 relay, is set for 3:35 p.m.
