LITTLE ROCK, Ark. _ The University of Central Arkansas men's and women's track teams took 11 golds at the weather-shortened Little Rock Invitational held Friday and Saturday at the Coleman Sports Complex.
The meet was canceled with eight events remaining because of severe weather in the immediate area. Despite UCA having a comfortable lead in both the men's and women's standings, the schools split the four points up for grabs in the inaugural "Governor's I-40 Showdown" since the meet was not completed. UCA, which already clinched the year-long competition, now holds a 24.5 to 8.5 lead.
On the women's side, UCA took seven golds and set one school record. Senior Kylee Kirk broke her own record in the hammer throw with a toss of 148-10. Senior Hannah Noble won the high jump (5-3), Junior Aysha Anderson won the 100-meter hurdles (14.61), freshman Gracie Hyde won the 5,000 meters (17:32.67) and finished second in the 1,500 meters (4:43.02). Sophomore Tyler Rose was first in the 400 meters (56.06) and junior Ajah Criner won the 100 meters (11.89).Â
Freshman Lyndsey Hover won the pole vault (9-11.75) and sophomore Teshuna Sheppard took gold in the triple jump (38-2.75). Sophomore Taylor Coleman was second in the triple jump and third in the long jump, while sophomore Charlotte Blair finished second in the 800 meters.
On the men's side, freshman Thomas Hutchison won the pole vault with a jump of 14-1.75. Freshman Luke Anthony won the javelin at 187-0 and was third in the high jump, Sophomore Logan Hall took gold in the high jump (6-9.50) and freshman Timon Dresselhaus won the 110-meter hurdles (15:02), with sophomore Jordan Atkins second (15.27).Â
Freshman Johnson Adegbite finished second in the 100 meters while freshman Jalal Taylor was second in the triple jump and fourth in the long jump. Senior Julien Jeandree led a 2-3-4-5 finish in the 5,000 meters, running a 15:51.16, followed by Hunter Henderson, Markus Schweikert and Jaron Hamilton. Jeandree was also fifth in the 1,500 meters.
UCA's men and women host the annual UCA Open on Friday and Saturday at the Bill Stephens Complex.
