SEC, SUMMIT FOES COMING TO BEAR STADIUM

CONWAY, Ark. _ Not one but two opponents await the University of Central Arkansas Bears this weekend at Bear Stadium.

UCA will host both an SEC team for the first time, the Missouri Tigers, along with a three-game series against the South Dakota State Jackrabbits from the Summit League. On Friday, the Bears will face SDSU at 3 p.m. and Missouri at 6:30. Saturday's schedule has SDSU and Missouri playing at 3:00, followed by UCA and SDSU at 6:30. The Bears and Jackrabbits will wrap up the weekend at 1 p.m. Sunday.

The Bears were already scheduled to play the Jackrabbits in a three-game series, when Missouri was added to the mix last month.

UCA has played SEC opponents such as Vanderbilt, Mississippi State and Ole Miss before but not at home at Bear Stadium. The Tigers are 5-4 overall this season and have won three consecutive games, while the Bears are 3-6 after losing twice at NCAA Regional participant Missouri State on Tuesday and Wednesday. SDSU, UCA's first opponent of the season not from the Missouri Valley Conference, enters the weekend with a 3-4 record and lost its last two games in Port Charlotte, Fla.

UCA is ranked 13th in the Southland Conference in batting average at .229 and is eighth in earned-run average at 5.24. The Bears have four players hitting better than .300, led by junior transfer shortstop Joshmar Doran at .360 and junior designated hitter Beau Orlando at .346.

UCA will send senior righthander Cody Davenport (0-1, 3.38 ERA) from Fayetteville to the mound to face the Jackrabbits, and junior righty Mark Moyer (1-0, 4.50) from Russellville against Missouri.

Following the weekend, UCA hosts Arkansas State at 6 p.m. Tuesday before opening Southland Conference play at Southeastern Louisiana in Hammond, La., next weekend.
