CONWAY, Ark. – The Central Arkansas Sugar Bears will quickly learn what their team is made of over the next three days as they will face the first-place Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks (20-1, 8-0 SLC) tomorrow night and the Abilene Christian Wildcats (5-13, 3-5 SLC) on Saturday afternoon at the Prince Center. The Sugar Bears (9-12, 3-5 SLC) will look to build on their 3-0 sweep of the Lamar Cardinals last week and break into the top eight in the SLC standings.
Central Arkansas will enter tomorrow's match leading the SLC in team kills (1,159), team total attacks (3,115) and team assists (1,080) while ranking third in assists per set (12.0). Senior
Abbie Harry will look to continue headlining the Sugar Bear offense as she ranks second in points (334.0), total attacks (880) and total kills (297) while sitting at No. 3 in kills per set (3.49) and points per set (3.93). Junior
Emily Doss will look to creep closer to dig No. 500 over the next two matches as she leads the SLC with 410 digs.
MEET THE STEPHEN F. AUSTIN LADYJACKS
The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks (20-1, 8-0 SLC) reside in Nacogdoches, Texas and will enter the Prince Center riding a 13-game winning streak along with 11 straight 3-0 sweeps. Their last dropped set came on September 14 in a 3-2 win over Rice. The Ladyjacks will roll into Conway sitting at No. 41 in the NCAA Women's Volleyball RPI and right outside of the AVCA Coaches Top 25 as they received 35 votes.
Stephen F. Austin will enter the match leading the SLC in hitting percentage (.259), opponent hitting percentage (.142, No. 8 nationally), digs per set (17.63), blocks per set (2.92, No. 7 nationally) and total blocks (207) while ranking third in kills per set (12.96). Senior outside hitter Corin Evans leads the Ladyjacks attack with a team-high 210 kills while four teammates follow behind her with 100+ kills. Junior Taya Mitchell is in the thick of an eye-catching season at the net defensively as she leads the SLC in total blocks (116, fourth nationally) and blocks per set (1.63, third nationally). Senior Ann Hollas leads in the assists department with 389 while junior Margaret Dean has 361.
The Thursday night matchup between both squads will be the first meeting since the Ladyjacks swept the Sugar Bears 3-0 in the SLC Tournament Championship last year.
MEET THE ABILENE CHRISTIAN WILDCATS
The Abilene Christian Wildcats reside in Abilene, Texas and will face SLC powerhouse Northwestern State tomorrow before heading to Conway for Saturday's match. The Wildcats will look to grab their first road win as they are 0-7 away from home and have dropped five of their last six.
Abilene Christian will enter the match with low marks on both sides of the net as their only top ten SLC rank comes in blocks per set (2.06, fourth). They rank last in team kills (726), total attacks (2,207) and digs (910) and No. 12 in kills per set (11.52) and opponent hitting percentage (.242). Sophomore six-footer Lindsey Toney leads the Wildcats attack with 155 kills while freshman Mackenzie Harris leads the back line with 215 digs. Sophomore Madison Rohre leads in the assist department with 530 and SLC third-best 9.05 per set.
