BEARS FALL TO COLONELS IN REGULAR-SEASON FINALE

THIBODAUX, La. — For the second consecutive day, Central Arkansas was unable to get a run across as Nicholls completed the three-game series sweep of the Bears with a 4-0 win at Ben Meyer Diamond at Ray E. Didier Field on Saturday in the regular season finale.

The Bears (32-23, 17-13 Southland) suffered a series sweep for the first time this season, going the final 24 innings of the series without a run. With the three victories, the Colonels (26-30, 14-16) remain in contention for the 8th and final spot in next week's Southland Conference Tournament, while the Bears will enter as either the 4th or 5th seed with their opening game at 7:00pm on Wednesday.

After being held to five hits on Friday, the Bears got just six on Saturday – all singles – and had just one runner reach scoring position when Hunter Strong reached on a fielder's choice and moved to second on a Tyler Smith walk in the first inning. William Hancock had a pair of hits, with Rigo Aguilar, TJ Black, Colby LeBlanc, and Coby Potvin each recording one.

The Colonels broke the scoreless tie in the 4th inning with a pair of runs, then added one more in both the 5th and 6th before holding the Bears to one baserunner over the final three innings, retiring the side in order in both the 8th and 9th to close out the victory.

Mark Moyer (5-6) took the loss for the Bears, going four innings – giving up a pair of runs on four hits and three walks with a wild pitch before being relieved by Tanner Wiley, who gave up two runs on five hits in three innings.

The Bears conclude the regular season having eclipsed the 30-win mark for the fourth time in the last six seasons – averaging 33 wins per year over that span – and have the second-most regular-season wins in program history behind only the 34 of the 2013 team that won the Southland Conference tournament and advanced to the final game of the Starkville Regional en route to a program-record 42 wins.
