CONWAY, Ark. _ Four University of Central Arkansas football players were named to another All-America team on Tuesday. Seniors Tremon Smith and George Odum, along with junior John Cook and sophomore Chris Terrell were among the 15 Southland Conference student-athletes named to the 2017 STATS FCS All-America team.
That overall total was the second most among all FCS conferences.
Smith, a cornerback from Anniston, Ala., was a first-team selection. Cook, the SLC Offensive Lineman of the Year, was a second-team selection, as was Odum, the SLC Defensive Player of the Year. Terrell, from Pensacola, Fla., was also a second-team honoree. All four players were also named All-Americans by the Associated Press last week.
Smith led the Bears with five interceptions and finished his career with 15 interceptions, tied for fifth on UCA's career list. Terrell, a sophomore from Pensacola, Fla., led the SLC in tackles for loss with 20, tied for second in sacks with 11 and also forced three fumbles. Odum, a safety/linebacker from Millington, Tenn., was UCA's leading tackler for the second straight year (120 total tackles) and finished his career fourth in UCA history with 350 tackles. Cook, from Grenada, Miss., helped UCA finish second in the league in scoring offense, passing offense and total offense.
The Bears finished 10-2 overall and reached the second round of the NCAA FCS Playoffs for the second consecutive year. UCA earned the No. 4 national seed in the FCS Playoffs and finished the regular season ranked No. 3 in both national polls.
