LAWRENCE, Kan. _ University of Central Arkansas sophomore high jumper Eric Moore tied for fourth at the NCAA West Preliminaries on Friday at the University of Kansas and qualified for the 2016 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon on June 8-11.
Moore, the Southland Conference indoor and outdoor champion, was one of 11 athletes who jumped 2.16 meters (7 feet, 1 inch) to advance to the nationals. Moore, who broke his own school outdoor record, finished tied for fourth with Southern Illinois' Kyle Landon. Ken LeGassey of Arkansas, Christoff Bryan of Kansas State and Randall Cunningham of USC tied for first.
The top 12 jumpers advance to Eugene. Moore, from Rialto, Calif., also made the NCAA Indoor Nationals in March in Birmingham, finishing tied for 14th in his first national competition. He cleared 6-11.75 and went out at 7-1.25.
