BEARS RETURN HOME FOR SLC MATCHUP WITH HUSKIES


    CONWAY, Ark. _ The University of Central Arkansas Bears return home to Bear Stadium this weekend after four consecutive road games.

    UCA (9-10, 3-3) will host the Houston Baptist Huskies (10-11, 2-1) in Southland Conference play beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday because of the Easter holiday. Game times are 6 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. Saturday.

    The Bears, who swept Stephen F. Austin in their opening SLC series two weeks ago, have lost four straight games, all on the road. Little Rock beat UCA 6-5 in the first game of the Rock N Roar Rivaly last Wednesday in Little Rock. Lamar then swept UCA in a three-game league series last weekend in Beaumont, winning 19-5, 7-6 and 9-2.

    HBU is the defending SLC Tournament champion after beating UCA twice in the tournament and then knocking off Sam Houston State 8-0 in the championship game.

    UCA is led offfensively by senior third baseman Logan Preston, who is hitting .361 with six multi-hit games and five multi-RBI games. Senior center fielder Tyler Langley of Conway is hitting .301 and is tied for the team lead in RBI (15) and home runs (2) and leads the team in doubles (5). The earned-run average for UCA's pitching staff is 5.16. 

    Louie Payetta and Greg Espinosa are HBU's top hitters, both hitting .341, with 13 and 11 RBI, respectively. HBU's pitching staff has a combined earned-run average of 3.77.
