Conway – After spending last weekend on the road, the Central Arkansas Sugar Bears are set to return to the Prince Center for a pair of matches this week. The Sugar Bears will host Southeastern Louisiana at 6:00 PM tonight, before welcoming New Orleans at noon on Saturday.
Central Arkansas (8-11, 2-5 SLC) was winless on the road last week, falling 3-2 at Lamar and 3-1 at Houston Baptist. Central Arkansas currently sits third in the Southland Conference with an attack percentage of .190, while ranking seventh by conceding a percentage of .202 to its opponents. Southeastern Louisiana (3-15, 2-3 SLC) earned a split at home last week, falling to UNO 3-2 before defeating Nicholls 3-1. Freshman Chloee Holden leads the Lady Lion attack, averaging 2.16 kills per set while hitting .175, and redshirt-freshman Elyssa Purcell ranks second on the team in both kills (1.97) and assists (4.02), while sitting ninth in the Southland with 0.30 aces per set. Defensively, sophomore Monica Ramon sits eighth in the conference with 3.84 digs per set, while senior Rachel Bunn leads the team with 0.65 blocks per set. UCA holds a commanding 22-1 lead in the all-time series with SLU, with the teams splitting last season's meetings. The Sugar Bears took the match in Conway 3-0, while SLU got a grueling 3-2 win in Hammond, Louisiana.
New Orleans (4-14, 1-4 SLC) also split last weekend, falling to McNeese 3-1 before defeating the Lady Lions 3-2. The Privateers sit in the middle of the pack in the Southland in most statistical categories, ranking eighth in blocks (1.65) and kills (11.20), but lead the league with 1.53 aces per set. Freshman Jordan Yauch leads the Privateer offense, averaging 2.70 kills per set, while fellow freshman Sarah Thomas ranks fourth in the Southland with 9.22 assists per set. On the defensive front, sophomore Samantha Uline ranks seventh in the league with 3.92 digs per set, and sophomore Kaitlyn Grice leads the Privateers with 0.91 blocks per set. Central Arkansas holds a perfect 6-0 lead in the all-time series with the Privateers, thanks to a pair of victories last season. Saturday will be UCA's annual Dig Pink match to raise Breast Cancer Awareness.
