Conway – The Central Arkansas volleyball team closed out the 2014 Sugar Bear Invitational on Saturday afternoon, playing host to the UNLV Rebels at the Prince Center. The teams traded wins in the first two sets before UNLV took the third and fourth sets to earn the 3-1 victory.
UNLV (11-3) took the first set 25-22, before Central Arkansas (5-7) rebounded to take the second set 27-25. The Sugar Bears were unable to get anything going after the second set though, as the Rebels took both the third and fourth sets by a score of 25-16.
Evie Grace Singleton was the only Sugar Bear to hit over .100, turning in a hitting percentage of .289 with a match-high 18 kills. Krisitne Hjembo, who stepped in after Amy South went down with an injury, led Central Arkansas' with 23 assists, while South dished out 22 of her own. Defensively the Sugar Bears were led by Shelbee Berringer's 16 digs and Megan Nash's three blocks.
Central Arkansas takes the court again on Tuesday night, hosting Alabama A&M at 7:00 PM. The Sugar Bears will then step back into Southland Conference play during the upcoming weekend, taking on Abilene Christian on Thursday and Incarnate Word on Saturday.
