In their first Southland Conference series at Bear Stadium of the 2014 season, the Bears scored three straight two-run victories for a weekend sweep of Sam Houston State, which came into the weekend ranked No. 16 in the nation and undefeated in conference play. The Bears won 9-7 on Friday, 4-2 on Saturday and 6-4 on Sunday, getting a pair of complete game performances from starting pitchers Connor Gilmore and Chris Caudle in the first two games. Senior shortstop Justin Treece went on to be named Southland Conference Hitter of the Week after batting .556 with 6 RBI for the week, which also included a pair of wins over UAPB.
