Melanie Bryant ended the last game of her career at Farris Field in about as spectacular a fashion as possible, making the most of her final at-bat on her home field with a walk-off grand slam to give the Bears a 7-5 win and sweep of Lamar.
After having lost a lead to the Lady Cardinals in the sixth inning, the Bears entered the seventh inning down 5-3. Tiffany Roby grounded out to start the inning, but that would be the final out the Lady Cardinals would record.
Sam Forrest walked, then advanced to second on a single by Sarah Bigej. They each advanced a base on a wild pitch, giving the Bears runners on second and third with one down. Senior Melissa Bryant, also playing her last game at Farris Field after four seasons, coaxed a walk to load the bases for her twin sister.
It was set up perfectly, with Melanie in the box as the school's career home run record holder. And, sticking true to the script, she added to that total by blasting a shot over the fence in left center to close out the game and her highly accomplished career in Conway.
