CONWAY, Ark. – The Central Arkansas softball team couldn't overcome a dangerous Ole Miss team Wednesday night, falling 5-0 to the SEC Rebels at Natalie Shock Stadium.
The Bears (23-15) struggled to find consistent offense, managing only four hits throughout the game. On the other side,
Lucy Crowder had the Rebels guessing for several innings before finally giving up enough damage to drop the final result.
Both sides recorded hits in the first inning, but neither side was able to create anything from it. The Central Arkansas defense kept things in front and in control in the early innings of the game, and with the exception of a second inning home run, were keeping the Rebels from feeling comfortable in the box.
LJ Smith nearly got the Bears going in the third inning, walking before advancing to third on a pair of groundouts, but the Bears behind her couldn't send her home to tie the game. And even through the fourth, Ole Miss was not having a field day at the plate, having no more than one baserunner in any of the first four innings. But the Rebels finally broke through in the fifth, scoring three runs to add to the lead and put some pressure on the Bears lineup. Ole Miss would score one more in the seventh to make it a five-run lead, and the Central Arkansas offense was unable to answer with three outs left in the game.
Central Arkansas now turns its attention back to ASUN play. Hosting Eastern Kentucky this weekend, the Bears and Colonels are set to play three games on Friday and Saturday. With inclement weather on the horizon, game times may change as the weekend gets closer.
