For the second consecutive season, the Central Arkansas football program found itself as one of 20 teams vying for a national title in the Division I Football Championship playoffs in 2012. By winning the Southland Conference's automatic bid to the playoffs by being league co-champions and owning the tiebreaker of Sam Houston State, the Bears were one of just 10 teams making a second-straight appearance in 2012.
A tough pairing sent the Bears to Statesboro, Ga. to square off against six-time national champion Georgia Southern in a meeting of Top-10 teams in the second round. The Bears fell 24-16 to the Eagles, seeing their comeback bid fall short with a fumble in the game's final minute to eliminate any hopes of a game-tying touchdown and two-point conversion.
The Bears advanced to the second round of the playoffs in 2011 after having defeated Tennessee Tech in the opening round.
