CONWAY, Ark. _ The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks scored two runs in the top of the 10th inning to take a 9-7 victory over the University of Central Arkansas Bears on Saturday and even their Southland Conference series at Bear Stadium.

The Bears (33-15, 12-11) had tied the game at 7-7 with a pair of runs in the sixth inning. After neither team scored for three consecutive frames, the Lumberjacks (26-25, 13-10) pushed across two runs off UCA reliever Clint Green. Mackenzie Handel led off the 10th with a single up the middle and a sacrifice bunt moved pinch runner Matthew Dickey to second and UCA failed to record the out on the bunt.

Another sacrifice bunt moved the runners to second and third before Max Lamantia gave SFA the lead with a sacrifice fly to right field. Jackson Hood then singled up the middle to make it 9-7.

The Bears, who left the bases loaded in the eighth inning and stranded two more on base in the ninth, left another runner on in the 10th, wasting Ethan Harris’ two-out walk. Harris, a senior from White Hall, finished 2 for 4 with 4 RBI, including his third home run of the season, a two-run shot in the third inning. The Lumberjacks hit two home runs in the first three innings and fniished with 16 hits off four UCA pitchers.

UCA’s Jonathan Davis, Blake Marchal and Justin Treece had two hits each, while SFA’s Ricardo Sanchez was 3 for 5 and Hood was 3 for 5. Four different players had two RBI each for the Lumberjacks.

Green (2-2) picked up the loss for UCA, going 3 2/3 innings in relief, allowinng 5 hits and 2 runs. SFA closer Brett Higginbotham (4-2) got the win with three scoreless innings to close it out.

Game 3 is set for 1 p.m. Sunday. Senior Day activities for UCA’s 10 seniors will begin at approximately 12:45 at Bear Stadium.
