CONWAY, Ark. _ Nicholls State starting pitcher Kory Delange held the University of Central Arkansas Bears to just five hits in a 2-1 victory in Southland Conference action on Saturday at Bear Stadium in front of a stadium-record crowd of 767 on Alumni Day.
Delange (5-3) went 6 2/3 innings, allowing just one run to even the series at 1-1. Game 3 of the series is set for 1 p.m. Sunday.
The Colonels took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third against UCA senior Jeffery Enloe, on a home run by Cody Dufrene and an RBI single to left center by Leo Vargas. The Bears got one run back in the bottom of the inning when junior first baseman Scott Zimmerle hit an RBI single to center that scored Ethan Harris, who had reached on a fielder’s choice.
After the third inning, UCA managed only one more hit the rest of the way, a single by Harris in the fifth inning. Delange and relievers Brandon Jackson and Jordan McCoy set the Bears down in order in the sixth, eighth and ninth innings, with McCoy earning his seventh save. Mike Barba led the Colonels (17-19, 2-9) at the plate, going 2 for 3.
Enloe (6-2) went the distance for the second straight game, allowing 7 hits and 2 earned runs, striking out 5 and walking none.
