BEARS DOWN TIGERS 10-1, IMPROVE TO 12-1

Ethan Harris had an RBI double in Tuesday's 10-1 win over Grambling State

GRAMBLING, La. _ The University of Central Arkansas Bears won their ninth consecutive game on Tuesday night, beating the Grambling State Tigers 10-1 at Ellis Field.

UCA (12-1) got four RBI from leadoff hitter Forrestt Allday and scored five times in the first four innings. Sophomore Zach Barr of White Hall pitched five innings of three-hit ball for the Bears, allowing just one run and striking out three.

The Bears scored three runs in the third inning, with two coming on Jonathan Davis’ two-run double. Ethan Harris followed with another double, scoring Davis. After the Tigers (3-9) picked up their only run in the bottom of the third, UCA extended its lead to 5-1 in the fourth on Allday’s RBI single and Michael Marietta’s bases-loaded walk.

In the seventh, Marietta singled and eventually scored on a balk. UCA got three more in the eighth, all on Allday’s three-run double that scored Nick Rougeau, Justin Treece and Doug Votolato. The Bears added one more for good measure in the ninth on Garrett Bock’s RBI single that scored Sam Moon, who was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning.

Rougeau, a sophomore outfielder from Conway, went 2 for 3, while Treece scored two runs.UCA totaled 11 hits and a group of seven Bears’ pitchers held the Tigers to just four.

UCA heads to Starkville, Miss. to take on Top 5 Mississippi State in a weekend series, beginning at 6:30 Friday.
