ORU TAKES DOWN UCA AGAIN, WINS SLC SERIES

Senior Michael Marietta had an RBI single for the Bears on Saturday

TULSA _ The Oral Roberts Golden Eagles turned 12 hits and solid pitching into a 3-2 victory over the University of Central Arkansas Bears on Sunday in the second game of their Southland Conference series on a cold, drizzly day at J.L. Johnson Stadium.

ORU (7-15, 2-0) won the series, with the finale set for 1 p.m. Sunday. UCA, ranked in the Top 25 this week for the first time, fell to 18-5 and 0-2.

The Bears, down 3-0 after five innings, made it interesting down the stretch, scoring single runs in the sixth and seventh innings, then leaving two runners on base in the top of the ninth inning.

The Golden Eagles got another solid outing from their starting pitcher as Drew Bowen (1-2) went six innings, allowing six hits and just one run while striking out six and walking none. UCA starter Jeffery Enloe (4-1) lost for the first time this season, allowing nine hits and two earned runs in six innings of work.

ORU picked up its first run in the second inning on a leadoff double by Jose Trevino and an RBI single by Matt Brandy. In the fifth, the Golden Eagles got two more on a two-run home run by Logan Domenico after Graham McIntyre had reached on a throwing error.

UCA, which got eight hits from eight different players, got an RBI base hit by senior catcher Michael Marietta in the sixth that scored Garrett Brown, who had doubled to center field. The Bears cut the deficit to 3-2 in the seventh when Forrestt Allday walked and went to second on a throwing error by the ORU catcher on a pickoff attempt. He scored on Jonathan Davis’ single to left field.

The Bears, who lost consecutive games for the first time this season, stranded a runner on base in both the seventh and eighth innings. In the ninth, Blake Marchal had a two-out single to right and Davis was hit by a pitch from Nathan Garza. But first baseman Scott Zimmerle struck out to end the threat and the game.

Domenico went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI, while Brandy and Chris Williams had two hits each for the Golden Eagles.
