CONWAY, Ark. _ The University of Central Arkansas Bears used another strong pitching performance to improve to 9-1 on the season with an 11-1 victory over the New Orleans Privateers on Friday at Bear Stadium.
Senior Caleb McClanahan (3-0) allowed just two hits and no runs in eight innings of work, striking out five and walking none. The UCA offense strung together 10 hits and had a four-run inning in the fifth and a three-run frame in the eighth.
Senior right fielder Forrestt Allday went 2 for 4 and had 3 RBI from his leadoff spot. Senior catcher Michael Marietta went 2 for 3 with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored. Ethan Harris, returning to the lineup after an injury, went 2 for 5 with 3 RBI.
UCA took the lead for good with a single run in the third inning when Justin Treece scored on Allday’s RBI single. The Bears put up four runs in the fifth off New Orleans starter Blake Prest. UCA had four hits in the inning, including another RBI single by Allday, an RBI walk by Blake Marchal, and sacrifice flies by Jonathan Davis and Marietta.
Allday hit into a fielder’s choice in the sixth, bringing in Garrett Brown with the sixth run. UCA got two more in the seventh on Harris’ two-run double to right field. In the eighth, Marietta had a two-run single and Harris brought in another run with a base hit to left
Griffin Glaude pitched the ninth inning for UCA, allowing two hits and a run, striking out two.
UCA will face Wichita State at 4 p,m. Saturday, then play New Orleans again at 1 p.m. Sunday.
