The Central Arkansas volleyball team returned to the Prince Center for the first of a two game Southland Conference home stand, welcoming Houston Baptist. Setter Marissa Collins led the Sugar Bears to a 25-17, 25-23, 24-26, 25-21 victory with a career-high 56 assists.
Central Arkansas (18-3, 10-0 SLC) outhit Houston Baptist (10-13, 5-6 SLC) .259 to .231 on the night, led by freshman Fulani Petties, who had a .348 hitting percentage and tallied 12 kills. Heather Schnars led Central Arkansas with a match-high 15 kills and Kyle Hartman added 11. Collins guided the Central Arkansas offense, eclipsing her previous career high in assists by one, while adding six digs, three blocks, and two kills. Shelbee Berringer led the Sugar Bear defense with a match-high 23 digs and Scout Brooks chipped in 12 more. Caiti Wenger led the Houston Baptist offense with 17 kills, while Madeline Gaffney and Bailey Keith added 12 and 10 kills, respectively. Kayla Armer wasn't far behind Collins, dishing out 53 assists of her own. Jessica Wooten led the Huskies defensively, digging up 13 balls.
The Sugar Bears return to action on Saturday, hosting Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at the Prince Center. The match is scheduled to begin at noon.
