The Central Arkansas Volleyball Program picked up two more wins Friday to move to 10-0 on the season, their longest such streak since opening the 2007 season 11-0.
In their first match of the day, the Sugar Bears faced off with the Jackson State Lady Tigers (0-5) winning in straight sets by scores of 25-16, 25-13, and 25-18. The Sugar Bears hit .382 for the match, led by Taylor Hammonds, who hit .875 on her way to seven kills. Jessica Hays let the way for the Sugar Bears offensively, collecting 12. Marissa Collins collected 37 assists, and Scout Brooks added nine kills and three aces. The Lady Tigers were led by Kameron Boggan, who had six kills, and Christine Edwards, who had five kills.
The second match of the day proved to be a test for the Sugar Bears, who dropped only their second set of the season to the South Dakota Coyotes (4-5). Both teams came out swinging, as the Coyotes tallied 13 kills and a .310 hitting percentage and the Sugar Bears added 15 kills and a .222 hitting percentage. A hard fought set ended with South Dakota grabbing a 25-22 set win. Central Arkansas rebounded though, taking the next three sets by finals of 25-17, 25-21, and 27-25. Central Arkansas hit .299 on the match, again led by Hammonds and her .643 percentage with nine kills. Hays led the Sugar Bears in kills, with 18, while Brooks and Jessica Nagy each added 12. Hays added three service aces, while Brooks added two. Collins helped pace the offense, distributing 56 assists. The Coyotes were led by Kendall Kritenbrink, who had 18 kills and five blocks, and Amber Aschoff, who added ten kills and a block.
The Sugar Bears return to the court tomorrow, facing off with Jacksonville State to close out this year’s Sugar Bear Classic.
