BEARS FALL 4-2 TO LUMBERJACKS

  NACOGDOCHES, Texas _ The University of Central Arkansas Bears let a 2-0 lead slip away Friday night in losing 4-2 to the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks in Southland Conference play at Jaycees Field.

The Bears (23-24, 14-14) scored runs in both the first and second innings, but then saw the home team score three runs in the third and add another in the sixth.

UCA got a run in the first when junior Forrestt Allday led off with a double and eventually scored on Bryan Willson’s ground out. In the second, Garrett Brown walked and moved to third on Griffin Glaude’s base hit to center field and scored on Blake Marchal’s RBI single.

The Bears left two runners on base in the top of the third before the Lumberjacks (20-29, 13-15) put up three runs on five hits in the bottom of the frame to take the lead for good.

UCA, which was held to just five hits, had only two after the third inning. SFA finished with 12 hits off UCA starter Jeffery Enloe (5-6), who went the distance, striking out 8 and walking 3. Chase Greening (5-5) got the victory for the Lumberjacks, going 7 innings, allowing 2 earned runs and striking out 2.

Glaude finished 2 for 4 for UCA, while Hunter Dozier and Freddy Villalobos were both 3 for 4 for SFA.

Game 2 is set for 2 p.m. Saturday.
