HAMMOND, La.. _ The University of Central Arkansas Bears scored on a sacrifice bunt by catcher Travis Snider in the 10th inning to beat the Southeastern Louisiana Lions 4-3 in 10 innings on Saturday at Pat Kenelly Diamond.
The Bears (13-15, 7-8) took the series 2-1 after losing the opener on Thursday night.
Senior designated hitter Blake Roberts went 2 or 4 with his third home run of the season in the second inning to give the Bears a 2-0 lead. UCA made it 3-0 on Blake Marchal’s RBI single in the sixth inning, after scoring a single run in the first on Bryan Willson’s RBI ground out.
The Lions (22-11, 8-7) tied it at 3-3 with a run in the seventh and two in the eighth inning. In the top of the 10th, Ethan Harris reached on an error on SLU’s shortstop and advanced to second on Forrestt Allday’s sacrifice bunt. Bryan Willson singled to right with Harris moving to third.
Snider then reached on a fielder’s choice bunt with Harris scoring the winning run against SLU closer Stefan Lopez. Senior reliever Andy Steinmetz (2-2), seeing his first action since March 18 because of an injury, pitched perfect ninth and 10th innings to preserve the victory.
UCA starter Ryan Angus went just two innings but Ethan McKinzie pitched five innings of middle relief and Clint Green threw a scoreless eighth inning.
The teams both had seven hits, with Roberts the only player with multiple hits.
UCA returns to action on Tuesday with a doubleheader at Ole Miss. The Bears return home next weekend, hosting Nicholls State.
