AUSTIN, Texas _ The University of Central Arkansas Bears will try to get back on track on Tuesday against a Top 25 team when they face off with the Texas Longhorns at 6 p.m. at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
The Bears (16-20, 10-11) had won five consecutive Southland Conference games before being swept by the Texas State Bobcats on the road in San Marcos last weekend. The Longhorns (23-14, 11-4) won their 12th consecutive Big 12 Conference series last weekend _ beating Kansas 2-1 _ and their 24th win in the past 25 league series.
The Bears and Longhorns have never met on the baseball field. UCA is 5-7 against schools from the state of Texas this season, all in league play. UCA is 3-0 against Lamar, 2-1 against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and 0-3 against both UT Arlington and Texas State.
UCA is tied with Northwestern State for sixth in the SLC standings at 10-11. The Bears are the No. 2 team in the league in hitting at .284, No 5 in fielding with a .965 fielding percentage and No. 7th in pitching with a 4.37 earned-run average.
Junior right fielder Forrestt Allday is first in the SLC in walks (47), first in on-base percentage (.537) and sixth in run scored (29). Junior left fielder Ethan Harris is tied for third in RBI (32), while sophomore Jonathan Davis is fifth in runs scored (32) and tied for sixth in stolen bases (15). Senior first baseman Bryan Willson is tied for ninth in hits with 48.
UCA returns to SLC play this weekend, hosting UTSA in a three-game series at Bear Stadium. The first game is at 6 p.m. Friday.
