BEARS BLAST COLONELS 13-1 IN SERIES OPENER

Jeffery Enloe threw a 2-hit complete game in Friday's 13-1 victory
CONWAY, Ark. _ The University of Central Arkansas Bears piled up 16 hits and had consecutive five-run innings in blasting the Nicholls State Colonels 13-1 in seven innings Friday night in Southland Conference action at Bear Stadium.

The Bears (14-17, 8-8) broke open a 2-1 game with five runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Junior lefty Jeffery Enloe did the rest, allowing just 2 hits and striking out 7 in his second complete game of the season. The Colonels (18-16, 7-9) got a lone hit in each of the first two innings, scoring their lone run in the second, but nothing more off Enloe (3-4).

Eight of UCA’s nine starters had hits, while second baseman Blake Marchal was officially 0 for 1 but walked twice, was hit by a pitch and scored three times.

UCA, playing its first home game since March 25, got on the board in the first on Forrestt Allday’s RBI single to center that scored Jonathan Davis. Nicholls tied it in the top of the third but UCA responded with two more runs in the bottom of the inning and never looked back. The Bears batted around in the fourth and scored 5 runs on 5 hits, including a pair of two-run singles by Ethan Harris and Bryan Willson.

Willson went 2 for 4 with a game-high 3 RBI. Davis and Allday had three hits each, with Davis scoring three times. Harris, Logan Moon and Kraig Kelley had two hits apiece, with Moon and Kelley scoring twice each.

UCA had five more hits and five more runs in the fifth for a 13-1 lead. Enloe got the Colonels in order in the sixth inning and allowed a walk in the seventh before striking out Matt Richard looking to end the game.

Game 2 of the series is set for 4 p.m. Saturday.
