BEARS FALL 7-5 TO COWBOYS

Jonathan Davis had a two-run single on Friday against McNeese State
LAKE CHARLES, La. _ The University of Central Arkansas’ scoreless inning streak came to an end Friday night as the McNeese State Cowboys recorded a 7-5 victory in Southland Conference play at Cowboy Diamond.

The Bears (8-7, 3-1) had shut out Lamar University for 28 consecutive innings last weekend in the opening series of conference play. But the Cowboys (5-11, 2-2) scored an unearned run in the first inning Friday, added three more in the third and two in the fourth, all off UCA starter Jeffery Enloe (2-2).

UCA, which saw its five-game winning end, finally answered with four runs in the sixth inning when sophomore Jonathan Davis had a two-run single and senior first baseman Bryan Willson added a two-run double. The Bears got one more run in the ninth off McNeese closer Michael Clemens, on Forrestt Allday’s RBI single.

The Bears, the top fielding team in the SLC, had a season-high three errors in the game, two by shortstop Blake Marchal. McNeese starter Trey Brown (1-2) got the victory and Clemens picked up his second save. Enloe got the loss, allowing four hits and 5 earned runs, along with 5 walks and 5 strikeouts in 3.1 innings.

Wilson finished 2 for 4 with 2 RBI, while Davis was 1 for 4 with 2 RBI. Allday went 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored.

Game 2 of the series is set for 3 p.m. Saturday.
