BEARS RUN-RULE CARDINALS, SWEEP SERIES

Senior Ryan Angus dominated the Lamar Cardinals in Sunday's 10-0 victory
 CONWAY, Ark. _ The University of Central Arkansas Bears used their third dominating pitching performance of the weekend on Saturday to take a 10-0, run-rule victory over the Lamar Cardinals in Southland Conference action at Bear Stadium.

Senior right-hander Ryan Angus went the distance, allowing just four hits, striking out nine and walking none. The UCA pitching staff combined for 28 scoreless innings over the weekend and allowed just 13 hits. Four UCA pitchers struck out a combined 32 batters and issued just four walks in the three-game series.

The Bears spotted Angus (2-1) a 5-0 lead in the first inning when they got five hits and an error. The first three batters reached on bunts and junior Ethan Harris knocked in Forrestt Allday with a single to center. First baseman Bryan Willson had a two-run single to right for a 3-0 lead before third baseman Blake Roberts added a two-run single to center.

UCA (8-6, 3-0) added four more runs in the fourth inning, with three coming on Harris’ three-run home run to left field. Jonathan Davis added a sacrifice fly for a 9-0 UCA advantage.

The Bears reached the 10-run plateau with a single run in the fifth, on Davis’ RBI single, and Angus did the rest. He struck out the side in the fifth inning, stranded two runners in the sixth and set the Cardinals down in order in the seventh for the victory.

Harris finished 2 for 4 with 4 RBI, while Allday was 3 for 4 and scored twice. Davis went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI and Roberts was 1 for 2 with a pair of RBI. The series sweep was the first for the Bears in conference play since 2010 when they beat Sam Houston State three times.

UCA hits the road next weekend to face the McNeese State Cowboys in SLC play in Lake Charles, La.
