Evansville, Ind. –
The Central Arkansas Men’s Soccer Program certainly didn’t struggle to find any chances on offense Saturday night. Finishing those chances though, proved to be a bit more difficult.
The Bears (7-7-0, 1-3-0 MVC) took 20 shots during the evening’s match, but managed to put only two of those on goal. They were led offensively by Taylor Hart, who placed one of his six shots on goal, and Ethan Miller, who was on target on one of his five attempts. “Taylor was very dangerous early on,” said Coach Ross Duncan. “He got behind them and created some really dangerous chance; and I think this was one of Ethan’s better games on the year. He was consistently dangerous and really scrappy, and he did exactly what we asked him to do.”
Evansville (9-5-0, 3-1-0 MVC) scored the only goal of the day in the 36
th minute, as Alex Kapsalis slid a ball through the Central Arkansas back line and Jesse Sharp put it away from five yards out. The Aces took 15 other shots on the day, six of which were on frame. Of the goal, Duncan said, “I think we had a span of ten to fifteen minutes in the first half where we let down a bit and that’s when they got their goal. I feel like we just kind of went away from what we’ve done all year: controlling the ball and playing good team soccer. But we talked about it at halftime, and in the second half we were quite good.”
In goal for the Bears, Cody Gibson made six saves and allowed one goal. For Evansville, Eric Teppen made two saves.
The Bears return to the pitch next Saturday at 1:00, battling SIU-Edwardsville, a match-up which Duncan has been anticipating: “They had the same result against Evansville that we did, plus it’s going to be Senior Day, which is always going to bring an extra bit of bite. We’ve been looking forward to this because we think they’ll be a good opponent so I think it’ll be a fun game for the boys to be in and a fun game for us to coach in.” The main event of the day will be the Senior Day festivities which will honor the program’s Senior and celebrate all they have accomplished during their time at Central Arkansas.
