Conway, Ark. –
The Central Arkansas volleyball team will do more than just face off against Southland Conference foe Oral Roberts on Saturday.
The match, set to kick off at 5:00 in the evening, is a “Digs for the Cure” game, where the Sugar Bears will show their support for those who battle breast cancer. After the second set, Laura King, from Greenbrier, and Milisa Moore, a member of Central Arkansas’ athletic department staff, and Linda McRoberts, mother of former Sugar Bear coach Steven McRoberts, will be honored for the courage they have shown in their fights with breast cancer. The three women will be presented with the “Battlin’ Bears” Award, an award developed through a partnership between the Sugar Bears volleyball team and Sears of Conway. On October 27, there will be a spaghetti dinner fundraiser hosted by the friends and family of Laura King.
“Digs for a Cure” is part of a wider program called “Bears for a Cure” that all of UCA Athletics is engaging in this October. The men’s soccer program will host a “Kicks for a Cure” game on October 17, while the women’s soccer program will do the same on October 19. On October 20, the softball team will host a “Ks for the Cure” game. Pom-poms, T-shirts, and pizza will be sold at all events, with the proceeds going to benefit the Conway Regional Health Foundation. A check will be presented to CRHF at UCA’s November 3
rd Homecoming game against Northwestern State.
