UCA NAMES 2011 HALL OF FAME CLASS

CONWAY, Ark. _ The 2011 class of the UCA Sports Hall of Fame includes nine members who excelled as student-athletes, coaches, administrators and friends of UCA athletics over the past five decades.

The Class of 2011 includes: LeRoy Dangeau, Tom Davis, Terry Hall, Brooks Hollingsworth, Monroe Ingram, Hosea Knowlton, Fay Pew, Cendey Kesler (Roberts) and Bill Tiner. The group will be inducted during Hall of Fame Weekend on Oct. 1, in conjunction with the UCA-Stephen F. Austin football game at First Security Field at Estes Stadium.

Dangeau was a four-year letterman in football (1951-54) and was an All-Arkansas Intercollegiate Conference selection in 1953. Dangeau went on to a long and distinguished officiating career and was inducted into the Arkansas Officials Hall of Fame. He also served in the Arkansas House of Representatives.

Davis was the Bears’ leading scorer and rebounder in both 1964 and 1965 and still ranks ninth in career scoring at UCA. He was a first-team All-AIC selection both years and also led the conference in scoring in 1964 and 1965. Davis went on to a long coaching and administrative career and was inducted into the Batesville Area Athletic Hall of Fame in 2001.

Hall was a much-decorated track and field athlete at UCA. He earned All-America honors in 1977 and 1978 and still holds the UCA school record for the 100 meters. Hall was an eight-time AIC champion and had four Top 5 finishes at the NAIA Championships.

Hollingsworth is going into the hall of fame as a player and coach. He was an NAIA All-American honorable mention in 1980 as an offensive lineman for the Bears and an All-AIC selection in 1979 and 1980. Hollingsworth has been a part of the UCA football coaching staff for 18 years, and also served as head coach at Arkansas Tech. He is currently the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach for the Bears.

Ingram led the Bears basketball team in scoring in both 1958 and 1959 and was an All-AIC first-team selection both years. He went on to a distinguished coaching and teaching career at Southern Arkansas University and was one of the most respected coaches in the old Arkansas Intercollegiate Conference.

Knowlton left UCA in 1993 as the leading collegiate rusher in school and state history with 4,549 career rushing yards. Knowlton was a two-time NAIA All-American who led the Bears to the 1991 NAIA National Championship.

Pew enters the hall of fame for meritorius service after serving as the clock operator for all UCA football games for nearly 40 years. Pew has been a fixture in the UCA, as well as Conway High School, press boxes since the 1970s.

Kesler (Roberts) was a three-sport athlete at UCA, including tennis, swimming and cross country, and also served as UCA tennis coach from 1999 until 2009. In tennis, Roberts was a first-team All-AIC selection three times and played on three AIC championship teams. She was a two-time conference champion in swimming and was a four-year recipient of a presidential scholarship.

Tiner was a baseball and football star at Arkansas State Teachers College (ASTC) from 1959-63. He was an NAIA All-American in baseball, a four-time All-AIC selection and played on two NAIA District 17 championship teams. In football, he was named All-AIC and was the 1958 AIC Freshman of the Year.

The 2011 class, the 10th to join the UCA Sports Hall of Fame, will be inducted in a banquet at the UCA Student Center Ballroom prior to the football game on Oct. 1.
