CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas _ Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Todd Simko shut down the University of Central Arkansas Bears on Sunday as the Islanders took a 13-2 seven-inning victory at Chapman Field.
The Islanders (26-21, 11-13) swept the series after two late-inning comebacks in the first two games. UCA dropped to 19-24 overall and 9-15 in Southland Conference play.
The Bears managed only three hits off Simko (7-6), who allowed just two runs and struck out seven. Meanwhile, A&M-CC racked up 14 hits off three UCA pitchers. The Islanders scored three runs in the second inning, five in the third, and added five more over the next three innings for the run-rule victory.
The Bears got their only runs in the third inning on Logan Moon's RBI single and in the seventh on Matt Bauer's home run to right field.
Four Islanders had two hits each, with designated hitter Omar Garcia going 2 for 3 with 3 RBI. Centerfielder Chris Vergne had a pair of solo home runs.
Ethan McKinzie (0-1) took the loss for the Bears, allowing 8 hits and 6 earned runs in 2.2 innings.
