BEARS FALL TO ISLANDERS AGAIN

Michael Pair had a two-run single in the ninth inning on Saturday
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas _ For the second consecutive day, the University of Central Arkansas Bears lost a lead and lost a game as Texas A&M-Corpus Christi rallied for a 7-6 victory on Saturday afternoon at Chapman Field.

The Bears (19-23, 9-14) led 4-1 after six innings but the Islanders (25-21, 10-13) put up five runs in the seventh inning to take the lead. UCA responded with two runs in the top of the ninth to tie the game, but the Islanders won it in the bottom of the frame with Matt Holland's RBI single.

UCA, down 1-0 after one inning, scored twice in the second on catcher Travis Snider's two-run home run down the right-field line. The Bears pushed the lead to 2-1 in the fifth Jonathan Houston's squeeze bunt scored Kyle Prevett. In the sixth, UCA got another run on Prevett's RBI single that scored Michael Pair.

Junior lefthander Dustin Ward, who had won his previous three Southland Conference starts, ran into trouble in the seventh inning, allowing four runs. Jacob Perales and Weston Montgomery had consecutive doubles before Omar Garcia had a two-run home run.

The Bears tied the game in the ninth as pinch hitter Blake Roberts had his second ninth-inning hit in as many days with a single to right field. Houston and Bryan Willson both drew two-out walks to load the bases. Michael Pair then had a two-run single up the middle to make it 6-6.

Snider went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI for the Bears, while Houston and Ethan Harris added two hits apiece. Trey Hernandez went 3 for 4 for the Islanders. Ward allowed 7 hits and struck out 5 in six innings or work, but go no decision. UCA reliever Jackson Lowery (0-1) got the loss while A&M-CC's Phillip Garcia (2-0) got the win.

Game 3 of the series will be at 1 p.m. Sunday.
