LITTLE ROCK _ The University of Central Arkansas Bears were beaten 6-5 by the UALR Trojans and Mother Nature on Tuesday night at Gary Hogan Field.
The Bears (18-19) had tied the game 6-6 in the top of the eighth inning when the storms rolled in. The game was eventually called in the bottom of the eighth inning with the score then reverting back to the final completed inning, giving the Trojans the victory.
UCA had a 5-3 lead until the Trojans (16-20) went ahead 6-5 with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. After a scoreless seventh, UCA’s Blake Roberts got a hit and pinch runner Doug Votolato went to second on Jordan Getchell’s sacrifice bunt. Senior Zack Dickson then singled to score Votolato to tie it at 6-6.
The Bears took a 1-0 lead in the first on freshman Jonathan Davis’ fourth home run of the season. After UALR scored twice in the bottom of the inning, UCA went back in front with two runs in the second inning. Dickson was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Kyle Prevett added a sacrifice fly for a 3-2 lead.
UCA added another run in the fourth on Logan Moon’s RBI triple to the right-center gap. Moon, a freshman from Blue Springs, Mo., finished 2 for 4 with 2 RBI. Getchell, a junior from Little Rock, went 3 for 3.
Nick Rountree finished 3 for 4 with 3 runs scored and 2 RBI and hit his seventh home run for the Trojans. Reliever Nick Grimmett (2-0) got the victory while reliever Blake Payne (3-5) took the loss.
UCA plays at UAPB at 3 p.m. Wednesday.
