BEARS FALL TO REDHAWKS 10-3

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. _ The Southeast Missouri Redhawks outhit the University of Central Arkansas Bears 14-6 on Wednesday and it resulted in a 10-3 victory for the home team at Capaha Field.

The Redhawks (7-2) jumped ahead early and never trailed in completing the two-game sweep of the non-conference series. SEMO scored two runs in the first inning and single runs in the second and third innings for an early 4-0 lead. The Bears (6-2) responded with two runs in the fourth but did not score again until the top of the ninth inning.

In the fourth, senior first baseman Jonathan Houston had a one-out single up the middle and junior third baseman Bryan Willson followed with one down the left-field line, sending Houston to third. Sophomore Ethan Harris walked to load the bases and sophomore catcher Travis Snider brought in both runs with a single to right center.

Down 10-2 in the ninth, UCA’s Michael Pair opened with a walk and went to second on a wild pitch by SEMO reliever Trent Wise. Votolato reached on a error by shortstop Kenton Parmley. Houston then lined into a double play. Votolato stole second before Wilson singled down the left-field line to send him home and make it 10-3.

Wilson finished 2 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI, and was the only UCA player with multiple hits. Brett Russell went 3 for 4 with 4 runs scored and 2 RBI for the Redhawks. Four other players had multiple hits for SEMO, which had seven extra-base hits, including a home run by Russell.

UCA starter Drew Trout, a freshman from Kansas City, Kan., took the loss, allowing three earned runs in two innings. SEMO starter Brad Labruyere went five innings, striking out four and allowing two earned runs for the victory.

UCA hosts Indiana State in a four-game series this weekend, beginning at 6 p.m. Friday at Bear Stadium.
