BEARS FALL LATE TO COWBOYS

Kyle Prevett had an RBI single in the seventh inning Tuesday
STILLWATER, Okla. _ The Oklahoma State Cowboys scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning Tuesday for a come-from-behind 5-3 victory over the University of Central Arkansas Bears at Reynolds Stadium.

The Bears (8-9) enjoyed 1-0 and 3-1 leads through the first 6.5 innings before the Cowboys (13-3) took the lead for good in the seventh. OSU scored its four runs on just two hits and took advantage of three walks. Second baseman Davis Duren had a two-run double and Zach Johnson added a sacrifice fly to give the Cowboys a 4-3 lead. Dane Phillips followed with a triple to the gap in right center to set the final.

The Bears, who used nine pitchers in the mid-week contest, took a 1-0 lead in the first when right fielder Ethan Harris led off the game with a double to right center. Jonathan Davis’ sacrifice bunt moved him to third and he scored on Jonathan Houston’s ground out.

A quartet of UCA pitchers, Andy Steinmetz, Ethan McKinzie, Jackson Lowery and Clint Green, held the Cowboys scoreless for five innings. They picked up a run in the sixth on an RBI single by Jared Womack. But the Bears answered that with two runs in the top of the seventh. Kyle Prevett had an RBI single to right field and Michael Pair also came in to score on a throwing error for a 3-1 UCA lead.

John Kordsmeier (1-1) took the loss for UCA, while reliever Blake Barnes got the win. Harris and Houston both went 2 for 4 for UCA.

The Bears return to Southland Conference play this weekend, hosting the Lamar Cardinals beginning at 6 p.m. Friday.
