Jonathan Davis had a two-run home run on Tuesday
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. _ It took extra innings Tuesday but the University of Central Arkansas Bears finally lost their first game of the young season, falling 6-5 inn 11 innings to Southeast Missouri State at Capaha Field.

The Bears (6-1) had a 5-2 lead heading into the bottom of the eighth inning but the Redhawks tied it with three runs. In the bottom of the 11th inning, SEMO got a leadoff single from Taylor Heon and Kenton Parmley followed with another single that sent pinch-runner Tim Rupp to second. Jesse Tierney reached on a fielder’s choice and advanced to second on a UCA error. Rupp was thrown out on the play for the first out.

The Bears intentionally walked Michael Adamson but Blake Slattery made them pay with a sacrifice fly that allowed Parmley to score the game winning run.

UCA, which was held to just six hits by five different pitchers, took a 2-0 lead in the second inning when Zack Dickson was hit by a pitch and freshman Jonathan Davis homered to left center. The Redhawks got one run back in the third but UCA pushed two more across in the fourth. Blake Roberts hit a two-out double to right center and advanced to third on wild pitch. Davis walked and stole second and went to third on an error on SEMO first baseman Casey Jones that also allowed Roberts to score.

Michael Marietta then doubled to left center to score Davis for a 4-1 lead. SEMO closed it to 4-2 in the sixth but UCA came back with another run in the top of the seventh. Marietta walked, moved to second on Kyle Prevett’s sacrifice bunt and scored on Michael Pair’s RBI double.

For the Bears, Marietta was the only player with multiple hits, going 2 for 3. Davis had 2 RBI and scored twice. Blake Payne (1-1) took the loss, pitching the final 3.2 innings.
