CONWAY, Ark. _ The University of Central Arkansas Bears have added their third Arkansas transfer quarterback since 2002 with the addition of Jacoby Walker.
Walker, a 6-foot-2, 220-pounder from Houston, Texas, with three years of eligibility remaining, has enrolled at UCA after redshirting at Arkansas in 2010.
Walker joins former UA quarterbacks Zak Clark and Nathan Dick, who both transferred to UCA in the middle of their careers and put up huge numbers. Clark (2002, 2004) is the No. 4 career passer at UCA and Dick, who just finished his career, is No. 3 on the list.
“We’re excited to have Jacoby join our football program,’ said Conque, who has been at UCA for 12 years. “He will bring added maturity to the quarterback position. A highly recruited an highly talented quarterback coming out of high school in Houston, Jacoby recognizes an opportunity to compete and maintain the high standards of the quarterback position here at Central Arkansas.
“He is excited and wants to help our program continue on our mission of winning a Division I national championship.’
Walker enrolled early at Arkansas in January of 2010 and redshirted after suffering an injury in the 2010 Red-White game. Walker was rated the No. 33 dual-threat quarterback in the nation by Rivals.com when he signed out of Westfield High School in Houston. He started as a sophomore at Westfield and was named the Texas District 5A-13 Co-Offensive Player of the Year and was a first-team All-District selection as a sophomore and junior.
Walker was a finalist for the Houston Touchdown Club’s Offensive Player of the Year award in 2009 when he completed 62 percent of his passes while throwing for 2,383 yards with 25 touchdowns as a senior. He also rushed for 347 yards and seven touchdowns, leading the Mustangs to an 8-4 record and the second round of the Class 5A state playoffs.
Before signing with Arkansas, Walker was also recruited by Houston, Kansas, Oklahoma State, Utah, Nebraska and Syracuse.
Walker will join three UCA quarterbacks already in the program, including sophomore Wynrick Smothers, the backup to Dick the past two seasons, redshirt freshman Ryan Howard and freshman Trey Taylor, who redshirted this season.
Dick, who played his final three seasons at UCA, threw for 3,275 yards and 32 touchdowns this season in leading the Bears into the second round of the FCS Playoffs.
