CONWAY, Ark. – The University of Central Arkansas volleyball team hit .274 and held UAPB to a hitting percentage of -.077 in a 3-0 (25-14, 25-13, 25-18) victory in front of a crowd of 218 Tuesday night at the Prince Center.
With the victory, UCA (9-8) has now won 31-straight home matches—the second longest home winning streak in the nation. It was the first home match of the 2011 season for the Sugar Bears after spending six straight weeks on the road to open the year.
UCA was helped to victory by junior outside hitter Lindsey Barron, who led all players with nine kills in the contest, while hitting .368. Freshman Alicia Dittrich added seven kills and a pair of assists while Taylor Hammonds earned six kills and three digs. Lauren Dear, filling in for the injured Marissa Collins, recorded a match-high 34 assists.
UCA’s defense racked up 43 digs in the match, helping hold UAPB to the lowest hitting percentage of any opponent they have faced all season. The reigning Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week, Cristin Curl, led all players with 15 digs. Jessica Nagy added seven digs and Shelbee Berringer recorded six digs in the contest.
UAPB was led by Alicia Campbell, who finished with a team-high five kills. Michelle Fiala added four kills and Alexis Lowe had 10 assists, two aces, eight digs, and two blocks.
The Sugar Bears will return to action at the Prince Center tomorrow night for their home conference opener against Northwestern State. Fans are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items for donation in support of the Bethlehem House. Match time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
