CORVALLIS, Ore. — Central Arkansas surrendered a pair of goals to Oregon State and was held scoreless for the second consecutive match as the Bears fell 2-0 to the Beavers in the final game of the 2010 Oregon State Hensor/Zaher Nike Classic on Sunday night.
The Bears (1-5) fell behind in the 35th minute when Alex Eckerson's shot found its way into the top right corner of the net to give the Beavers (5-1) the advantage. OSU added another in the second half when UCA goalkeeper Ivan Zarate kept another shot by Eckerson out of the goal, only to have OSU forward Travis Sanchez knock in the rebound off Zarate's deflection.
Zarate had six saves for the Bears, who allowed the Beavers 11 shots with eight coming on goal. UCA had four shots at OSU goalkeeper Steve Spangler and seven in all.
Joseph Cervantes, Regis Mawire and Mickey Segura were named to the all-tournament team for the Bears.
UCA will play its first-ever Missouri Valley Conference match next Saturday in Conway against defending league champion Missouri State at 4 p.m.
