CONWAY, Ark. – The Central Arkansas men's soccer team gears up for yet another high profile matchup, getting set to take on No. 12 High Point in the fifth of six-straight on the road to start the season. The Bears and Panthers will go to battle on Sunday at 6 p.m. CT in High Point, N.C.
The Bears (0-3-1) snagged their first result of the season last time out, earning a hard-fought draw against Missouri State. The Bears from Springfield have made their stadium a difficult place to play, even harder to get a shutout, and Central Arkansas went in with a plan to limit one of the nation's best offenses and got the job done, holding the nation's top goal-scorer, Fumiya Shiraishi, to just three shots.
Central Arkansas has now put together several impressive defensive stands in recent weeks, also holding American Athletic Conference foe Tulsa to just a single goal at home, but the Bears have yet to mix in offensive success, albeit against some of the powerhouses of Division I men's soccer.
No. 12 High Point (3-0-2) will be no exception. Last time out, the Panthers drew 2-2 against No. 10 Marshall, extending their unbeaten streak to five-straight on the year and scoring streak to seven-straight matches dating back to last year.
The Panthers have gotten contributions from several players this season, with six goal scorers, including a three-goal scorer in Daniel Lugo, as well as two goal scorers that come off the bench, providing a spark when reserves are in the match.
Kickoff against the Panthers is set for 6 p.m. CT in North Carolina. The match will be streamed on ESPN+, with live stats available.
