ROADRUNNERS END SUGAR BEARS' STREAK

SAN ANTONIO - The University of Central Arkansas volleyball team's 33-match Southland Conference streak came to an end at the hands of UTSA at the Convocation Center on Saturday afternoon. The Roadrunners (17-9, 11-1 SLC) topped the Sugar Bears (22-7, 11-1) 25-20, 25-20, 23-25, 25-19 in the battle of division leaders. With the loss, UCA moves into a tie for the overall title with UTSA and each team has four matches left to determine the top seed of the SLC Tournament which begins on November 19. The Sugar Bears begin the final stretch on Thursday night with a home match against Lamar.

"UTSA played a great match today," said UCA head coach Steven McRoberts. "We are still tied for first in the Southland and our focus is now on Lamar on Thursday. Our ultimate goal is to go to the NCAA Tournament."

The Roadrunners outhit the Sugar Bears .228 to .151 and had a 55-50 advantage in kills. UCA, who ranks fifth in the nation in aces per set, only managed two aces and had 11 errors serving.

Senior right side hitter Chloe Smith recorded 12 digs and a career-best 18 digs. Junior Jessica Hays had 19 kills and sophomore middle blocker Taylor Hammonds had 10 kills and hit .500 with four blocks. Freshman Jessica Nagy added seven kills and five blocks. Junior Cristin Curl had 14 digs and senior Chloe Evans came up with 12. Freshman setter Marissa Collins had 42 assists.

UTSA was led by Kendra Rowland's 16 kills and Briana Mason added 14. Kelsey Jewasko led all players with 21 digs and Brittney Malloy had seven blocks. Kelsey Schwirtlich assisted 39 points.
