CORALVILLE, Iowa — The Central Arkansas volleyball team (0-9) lost to West Florida (8-2) 3-1 (17-25, 25-17, 11-25, 13-25) on Saturday night in Iowa. Central Arkansas hit .407 with 12 kills and one error in the second set but finished at .152 for the match, compared with West Florida's .304.
The Sugar Bears stayed with West Florida through the opening set, drawing even at 10-10 on an
Annie Hopkins and
Sophie Skinner block. West Florida responded with a 5-0 scoring run to move ahead 15-10, and Central Arkansas could not close the gap despite late points from
Ella Chaney and
Greyson Button. West Florida took the set 25-17.
In the second set, Central Arkansas took control of the momentum with a massive 10-1 run with
Sarah Carnathan serving the final five points of the stretch. The run was highlighted by an ace by Carnathan and monster blocks by
Karlyn Frazier with
Nicole Sargent and Chaney. Button and Carnathan put the exclamation point on the set, blocking an Argonaut attack to win the set 25-17.

Sophie Skinner tied the third set at 1-1, but West Florida created the set's separation early with a 7-1 scoring run. The Sugar Bears added kills from Sargent, Chaney, Carnathan and Button, including two consecutive Button finishes late, but could not cut into the deficit, dropping the set 25-11.
Central Arkansas was within three with the score at 14-11 in the fourth set after Skinner served up her second ace of the match. West Florida went on to answer with six straight points and a 10-1 overall scoring run to push it to match point at 24-12. West Florida finished the set 25-13, and won the match 3-1.
